November 24, 2020 by biomedes Leave a Comment

James Corden is the new host of CBS’s the Late Late Show. Corden takes over for Craig Ferguson, the popular host who announced his retirement in April 2014. Corden launch his Late Late Show career in 2015.

Net Worth:

Corden reportedly has a net worth of $30 million.

News broke August 5 that Corden could be the potential frontrunner. TheWrap.com first reported the news. Corden and CBS, however, did not confirm whether the actor would step into the role. CBS made it official on Sept. 8.

In the meantime, a lot of American talk show fans, though, are scratching their head wondering who James Corden is. Hulu Plus subscribers might recognize his face, but aren’t sure where they’ve seen him. And British television viewers know him well.

So who is James Corden?

A little background
Corden is a British comedian, actor, writer and producer who was born in August 1978 in Hillingdon, London, U.K. He grew up in Hazlemere, Buckinghamshire, and is the middle child between two sisters. His father, Malcolm, was a musician in the Royal Air Force, and his mother, Margaret, is a social worker.

He began his television career when he was only 21 years old, starring in the British series Boyz Unlimited, which led to a series of appearances in a number of popular British TV shows and films, including Teachers, Little Britain and Hollyoaks.

It was his work as Jamie Rymer on the series Fat Friends that elevated Corden to the next level. He was nominated for a

2000 Royal Television Society Award (similar to the U.S. Emmy) for Network Newcomer On Screen.

That led to more prominent roles and stage work, including The History Boys by Alan Bennett. Corden portrayed Timms and he followed the production to stages in New York (Broadway), Sydney, Wellington and Hong Kong. He was also in the 2006 film adaptation of the play.

Corden showcased his writing and comedy skills in the BBC 3 series Gavin & Stacey, which he co-created with his Fat Friends co-star. Corden scored a number of awards for his work on Gavin & Stacey, including Best New British Television Comedy through the British Comedy Awards. That series ran from 2007 to 2010.

Hulu Plus subscribers might recognize him as the overly excited friend of Mathew Baynton’s character in the six-part The Wrong Mans. Corden co-created the comedy/thriller with Baynton.

Talk show chops
Though Corden has extensive television experience as an actor and writer, Late Late Show viewers may be concerned with his ability to host a talk show. No worries. He’s been there, done that.

Corden was the co-host of Big Brother’s Big Mouth, an aftershow talk show similar to The Talking Dead.  He was also the host of comedy/sports game show A League of Their Own in the U.K. and co-presented the BRIT Awards in 2009, the first of three award hosting gigs.

News first broke that Corden could be the frontrunner for Ferguson’s job on August 5, 2014. CBS and Corden would not confirm the news.

If Corden does become the next host of the Late Late Show, he would likely begin his duties in January 2015. Ferguson’s contract ends in December.

Corden is married and has one child, Max.
