How much does it cost to have typescripts revised by BioMedES?

This depends on the number of pages of text in the equivalent of 1.5 line spacing and 11pt Ariel font size.  The total cost excludes pages where no work is needed (e.g. reference lists are not usually checked). The basic fee is 100 GBP (2016) and each page over a maximum of eight is charged at 8 GBP.  For extensive articles (theses, long review articles, etc.) reduction can be given, but contact us to negotiate a contract that is agreeable to both parties.

How long does it take to get the revised copy returned?

We try to get a paper returned within 2-3 working days. We can prioritise special cases and get a return within 1-2 days, but there is a surcharge of 20% for this service.  Long typescripts (e.g. theses) may take 6-7 days.

Does BioMedES take responsibility for the final form of a paper and its submission?

No. We do the work for our clients (authors) on the basis that we hope to improve considerably the English presentation, and in communicating the message(s) clearly and succinctly in good idiomatically and syntactically correct English. The author(s) must check the revised version and make any further adjustments that are needed. In some cases a dialogue needs to be opened with BioMedES to settle on a final version, which is usually done at no extra cost. The paper is the responsibility of the author(s). BioMedES takes no responsibility for any misrepresentation that might be present in the final (submitted) version. It does not submit papers on behalf of authors.

Do you check Figures and Tables?

Where it is obvious that figures or tables need some attention to improve them, we can suggest changes to the former and may alter some aspects of the latter, but in general these are not on charged pages and so remain mostly unaltered. However, we do check legends and titles.

How should I send the MS in for revision?

We work primarily from Microsoft Word (.doc and .docx) files, although we can convert some other types of files. When the latter is done, formatting and many other features (e.g. symbols) are frequently lost. For this reason, it is best not to send in a .pdf file as this invariably creates more problems in revising the text and changing format where necessary (this may change with new software now becoming available).

I am hoping to send you a number of papers, theses… etc. Is it possible to get a reduction for the volume of work being done and have an account for payment at regular intervals?

Yes; get in touch with us and we will come to an agreement that is mutually satisfactory. For clients submitting manuscripts on a regular basis, we can open an account that can be paid quarterly or half-yearly.

Can you do technical manuals, government reports and similar documents?

Yes, in fact BioMedES need not, and does not, confine itself to biomedical papers. We have revised technical reports on aircraft design, International Agency reports on earthquakes and other events, even advertisements and letters. We maintain strict confidentiality in all that we do.

I need to know whether my manuscript is good enough to be published. Can you provide advice and help?

Yes; send us the manuscript and we will suggest what can be done. A small fee may be involved.

Can you do quick checks on pre-submission papers to ensure they are in properly prepared for submission to journal websites?

Yes, we have a lot of experience in running a number of journals ourselves, and are working for a number of publishing houses (e.g. BioMed Central). This advice may be charged at a nominal rate.

I am writing a book but it is unlikely that it will be accepted by major publishing houses. However, I would like it to be prepared and published as an e-book.  Can you help?

Yes, we have already done several books and also published translations of interesting books available in other languages (e.g. Russian).

Can you make scientific revisions to my paper, if I send you the recommendations made by the reviewers?

No, we cannot ethically contribute scientifically to your manuscript, although some advice and suggestions can be given. However, we are prepared to make further revisions to the English content and grammar once you have made your alterations. This further revision may attract an additional fee if there are extensive corrections in the amended manuscript.

How can I pay?

We can also accept payment in various forms.  We readily accept bank transfers; invoices can be sent out that have the bank details necessary for the international transfer of payments. We can also arrange a credit card payment, please fill in the Credit Card form that will be sent to you on completion of the project, and either for you to email or mail it to our office. (Details of these transactions are not kept on our computers; see answer to question below.)  We ask for notification of payment before releasing the revised manuscript. Some clients have sent cheques (as long as they are drawn on an international bank), others have used Western Union, and in the last resort, cash in hard currency will be accepted. BioMedES is currently exploring an online payment account.

How can I be sure of the security of my Credit Card payments?

BioMedES has a secure terminal for credit card transactions, but email return of an invoice with your card details and security code depends on how secure your transmission can be.  If in doubt, return the credit card form with your CC details, but send the security code separately.
